I went on an early-season SIV course with Jocky Sanderson in April. The location was Oludeniz in Turkey – where you can take off at 6,000ft and fly out over the sea. You then have 4,000ft to play with, to simulate 'incidents de vol', collapses etc.
A very good week - intense. It was for myself, not work, so I was able to concentrate on the flying bits for a change. A good thing as each day is pretty full-on. It doesn't seem a lot, two flights a day, but when you factor in 8.30am briefings, all the new information, the ride up the mountain, the anticipation and waiting, and then the intensity of instruction on the actual flight, it's all quite exhausting! I know, I can hear the violins too...

Top take-off. It's been very nicely paved since I was last there. |

Babadag ... top of the world. Take-off is sort of in the middle at the top |

Looking down on Butterfly Valley. The only way in is to walk, by boat or by paraglider. Land on the beach, go for a swim, then lunch... fun. |

The steep-sided Butterfly Valley. Rumour has it that it was originally called Frog Valley, but they changed the name for the tourist boats |
